Get to know the filmmaker: Kristina Tran

An interview with the Director of re:connection, screening at the Mosaic World Film Festival.

A 3D animated short film about a mechanic, her robot companion, and the path they take to reconnect their relationship.

1. What drew you to create this film?

re:connection was first conceived when I reflected on my experience with balancing work and life in a past relationship. However, the story evolved as I shared it with each member of my team, and each person I spoke to saw something different in the characters we were creating. I realized that our simple story represented more than my original relationship issues and embraced every new emotion our team brought to the table. Now, the final form of re:connection is not only a story about what’s at the core of a relationship, but a letter to my team’s lived experiences as complex and loving people.

2. What advice would you give students or beginners that want to make films?

The easiest way to make good films is to make many bad or mediocre films first. Finish projects instead of perfecting them! Even if you do not finish a project, by moving on, you can create something new with everything you learned from your previous try. Sometimes, it’s best to keep moving forward instead of getting wrapped up in the past.

Thank you Kristina!
