An interview with the Director of Mare Tranquillitatis Part 1 & 2, screening at the Mosaic World Film Festival.
This experimental short film, with two-dimensional montage, aims to explain the vicious cycle of depression and visualize the stigmatization of patients and the impossibility of empathy for others.
1. What drew you to create this film?
The fundamental reason will be my personal experience with mental health issues. The interesting found footage I came across made this work possible And the two-dimensional montage decision was made based on my perception of how individuals suffering from mental health problems live a dual life, which results in a split between body and mind, also between different sensations.
2. What does filmmaking mean to you?
It is the most effective way for me to process information and achieve self-expression.
3. What advice would you give students or beginners that want to make films?
I honestly don’t know how to answer this question as I also consider myself as an emerging filmmaker. But I just keep telling myself to always try to make new work.
4. What films do you watch again and again?
Quite a few… for example, Millennium Mambo, Summer Palace, Pierrot le fou, La La Land..
