Modeled after the real-life practice of US sailors being forced to censor their pin-up tattoos during World War II, Draft Paper tells the story of an unfulfilled fashion designer who has to face the moral and personal implications of creating his art during a tumultuous time in history.

1. What drew you to create this film?
Draft Paper was written a few years ago by my husband Nathan Moon, and the story about an artist and his place in the world really struck me. I pictured the tattoo art in my head, and thought this script would be perfect as an animated film.
2. What does filmmaking mean to you? I believe that films, and specifically animated films, are one of the most powerful ways to tell stories and get emotions across. If I can make a viewer feel something through my artwork, then I have succeeded.
3. What advice would you give students or beginners that want to make films? One of the best pieces of advice I ever received was “it’s better to be done than perfect”. Don’t get caught up in perfectionism or fine details, otherwise you’ll never have a finished project. It’s always better to have something done that you can show, and you can always improve on the next one!
4. What films do you watch again and again? To be honest, there aren’t many films that I rewatch. I prefer to watch new things and expand my palate!
Draft Paper will screen during the Regional Filmmaker screening on Saturday the 19th. Reception starts at 6pm and the films screen at 7!
