Steadfast was finished in May 2026, during Cayli’s senior year at Harlem High School. Cayli is currently enrolled in the Mass Communications Program at Rock Valley College.
What drew you to create this film?
The reason I wanted to create this film was to highlight the environment and the people involved in the Northern Illinois punk scene. I’m really passionate about the local punk scene and I really want more people to be aware and understand the culture of punk music.
What does filmmaking mean to you?
Filmmaking to me is a perfect way to express a vision or convey a feeling. Knowing something you made can do that is a really unique feeling.
What advice would you give students or beginners that want to make films?
Advice I’d give to someone who wants to create a film is, make something you’re passionate about. Sometimes making a film can be stressful but knowing it’s something you really love makes this process way easier.
What films do you watch again and again?
A film I can’t stop watching is “Whiplash.” It’s a really beautiful movie. I find it really inspiring due to the colors, themes, acting and camera work.
Steadfast screens on Saturday the 19th at the Regionl Filmmaker Screening. Reception at 6pm, films at 7pm!
